Hennessey Landscape offers all of the services you will need to
help maintain the health and beauty of your lawn. Our program
begins with a complete soil test to analyze the existing components
in the substrate. This test will measure how much organic matter
is present, the presence, or lack of, all elements essential for
growth, and the pH. These factors together will also indicate
how available these elements are for root uptake.
Once
these factors are determined a program is designed specifically
to meet the needs of your lawn. Your program may consist of some
of the following practices:
-
Lime application. Either calcitic or dolomitic depending upon
magnesium content and pH of the soil.
- Organic
pre-emergent application to help keep any existing
weed
seed from germinating.
- Compost
topdressing and over-seeding and/or Compost Tea
application depending upon amount of organic matter and
soil biology present.
- Application
of organic fertilizers to encourage soil biology
and add Nitrogen if needed.
In
addition to these treatments aeration, typically done in the fall,
reduces thatch by introduction of microbes to the thatch layer,
reduces compaction and increases air movement in soils. Proper
mowing and watering practices are also essential to make this
program successful.
Over
time proper maintenance of an organic lawn renders it almost self-sustaining.
Feeding the soil so the plant can take what it needs to grow stronger,
healthier roots will result in a lawn that requires little irrigation
and is more drought tolerant. This is one of the main principals
of organic lawn care. The density of the turf, encouraged by organic
management techniques, leaves little to no room for weeds to invade.
The organisms in the soil ensure nutrient availability and prevent
nutrients from leaching away. Weekly monitoring reduces the risk
of any problems by ensuring that all components are in balance.
Your lawn will be healthy and chemical free, and you will save
money by not having to pay for products your lawn doesn't need.
